Preparations for Derek and Meredith's wedding are underway when Izzie's mother decides to pay a visit to the hospital. Thatcher, who is now sober, pays Meredith and Lexie a visit, in order to make amends. The Chief and Meredith don't see eye to eye on how to deal with a patient's family: the conflict raises issues from the Chief's past with Meredith.
